A VPN is one part of protecting a connection. Understand which traffic your client routes, keep your subscription link private and know where VPN protection ends.

An encrypted connection has a defined scope

For traffic routed through an encrypted VPN connection, the protected connection runs between your device’s client and the VPN server. This helps protect that traffic from inspection on the local network, including public Wi-Fi.

The website or service remains a separate destination beyond the VPN server. Keep using HTTPS, check the destination address and keep your device and client updated. Traffic excluded by a routing rule may use your ordinary connection.

DNS protection depends on the connection settings

DNS translates a website name into a network address. Where these requests go depends on your client, subscription configuration, routing rules and system or browser settings.

P2VPN’s published product information does not establish a universal DNS-leak protection guarantee for every client and mode. Keep the supplied configuration current, review exclusions and ask support if DNS behavior is unclear. A connected icon alone is not a DNS-leak test.

Different ways to reach the network

P2VPN’s publicly described connection options include REALITY, xHTTP and Trojan. These names describe different connection technologies or methods; they are not interchangeable security guarantees.

Additional connection methods are held in reserve and can be activated during disruptions. Their technical details are kept private. Automatic relay switching and 24/7 technical monitoring help keep routes available.

Use the configurations supplied with your subscription. If one method is unavailable on your network, refresh the subscription and try another available route. The methods and servers actually offered are shown in your client.

What a VPN can protect

Coverage depends on your client and routing mode. On desktop, system proxy and TUN can route different applications; per-app or destination exclusions can also bypass the VPN.

  • Traffic included in an encrypted connection is protected on the path from the client to the VPN server.
  • For traffic exiting through the VPN, the destination normally sees the VPN exit address instead of your direct connection’s address.
  • An available alternative route may help when another route is blocked or unreliable.

What a VPN does not protect

  • Signing in still identifies you to that website or app. Cookies and browser fingerprinting can still link visits.
  • A VPN does not remove malware, stop every phishing attempt or make unsafe downloads safe.
  • It does not protect traffic that your routing configuration excludes, or guarantee access to every website on every network.
  • It does not by itself make a cryptocurrency payment anonymous; blockchain transactions can be public.
